Z-Man Shadtron Review

The Z-Man Shadtron is a very interesting and unique soft swimbait that draws a lot of interest from bass fisherman.
As a huge fan of Z-Man baits and products, I made sure to get my hands on some Shadtron swimbaits and see if they live up to the hype.
And in my opinion, yes, the Shadtron is absolutely awesome and is one of my favorite soft swimbaits on the market.
But there is a lot more that you need to know, so let me give you a full breakdown with a Z-Man Shadtron Review.
Shadtron Hook System

The Z-Man Shadtron has a very unique hook design. You can rig the Shadtron two different line through ways. The first option is a single top hook design, which is my personal preferred rigging option.
The other hook option is to use a treble hook on the bottom of the swimbait. Both rigging options are line through designs, which have a bunch of advantages and is the best design for open hook swimbaits.
Like I mentioned, I prefer the top placed single hook rigging option because I feel like it looks a bit more sleek and it also helps prevent snagging easily as you reel the swimbait along the bottom or on top of vegetation.
But some guys prefer the bottom placed treble hook because they say it gives better hook up ratios.
Whichever type of guy you are, you can rig the Shadtron both ways, making it very unique and versatile.
ElaZtech Material = Durability

Like all Z-Man soft baits, the Shadtron is made from their ElaZtech, or TBE material. This material is incredibly stretchy and durable.
That durability is a huge advantage for soft swimbait fishing because the biggest issue with most soft swimbaits is that they cost $15-40, but they don’t last long because they are soft plastic baits.
But having an ElaZtech soft swimbait allows you to catch 5-10 times more fish on each bait than all the other soft swimbaits in the market.
So from an affordability stand point, the Shadtron is a much better deal than just about every other soft swimbait that I have used.
Swimming Action

The Shadtron has a wedge shaped tail as opposed to most swimbaits that have boot or paddle shaped tails.
That wedge tail gives the Shadtron a very tight and subtle tail kick with a bit of side to side body shake.
It is a much more subtle and tight action than most swimbaits will give you. For this reason, I think the Shadtron is extremely good for colder water fishing when you don’t want a super wide or thumping action out of your swimbaits.
Now I have caught bass on the Shadtron in all types of water temperatures, but I think cold water is when it will really outproduce most standard swimbaits.
So if you are looking for a summer time swimbait that draws a lot of attention and gets bass fired up, the Shadtron might not be ideal for you. It is super subtle, natural, and in my opinion really shines in cooler water temperatures.

Overall Thoughts
In my opinion, the Z-Man Shadtron LT is an absolutely awesome soft swimbait. I have fished it for about 9 months now and it has become my favorite soft swimbait on the market.
Like I mentioned earlier, I think cooler water temperatures is where it really shines and will get you more bites than other swimbaits.
But no matter what time of year it is, the incredible durability it has, the line through design, and the rigging versatility makes the Shadtron an awesome soft swimbait all year round.
And at a very affordable price, I highly recommend the Z-Man Shadtron LT!
Reeling This In
The Z-Man Shadtron LT is a rare breed of swimbait that successfully balances innovation with pure fishability.
While most soft swimbaits are treated as “disposable” high-ticket items, the ElaZtech construction changes the game by offering a level of durability that simply can’t be matched by traditional plastic.
Whether you’re leveraging the top-hook rigging to navigate cover or slowing things down in cold water to take advantage of that subtle wedge-tail kick, this bait offers a level of versatility that justifies a spot in any serious angler’s tackle box.
It’s tough, it’s realistic, and most importantly, it flat-out catches fish when other baits are too aggressive.
If you’re looking for a swimbait that outlasts the competition and delivers a natural profile the bass haven’t seen a thousand times before, the Shadtron is a clear winner.
