Strike King Bitsy Flip Jig Review

Jig fishing is one of the most fun, effective, and essential techniques in bass fishing. Jigs can allow you to fish very heavy cover and are pretty much a do everything bait that is truly the most versatile lure in all of bass fishing.

Plus, every angler swears that jigs simply catch bigger bass. And the exact jig that we always recommend to get you started is the Strike King Bitsy Flip Jig.

If you have little or no jig fishing experience, this is our favorite starter jig for you!

Overall Design

So the Strike King Bitsy Flip Jig is made to be a compact, downsized flipping jig.

But because of the smaller size as well as the head shape, line tie, and weed guard qualities, the Bitsy Flip Jig is pretty much a casting jig, which means that it is a great all purpose jig.

The head shape is pointy enough that it can be swam very good, much like a swim jig. The line tie is vertical and sits at a 45 degree angler, which makes it great for fishing grass, wood, and even dragging along the bottom in open water.

And of course, the more compact size of the Bitsy Flip means that it will catch bass of all sizes with a high hook up ratio, so you can immediately start catching bass with it no matter where or when you fish it.

So the overall design of the Bitsy Flip Jig makes it a great all purpose jig you can fish any time, any place of the lake.

Price

This is probably the biggest advantage of the Bitsy Flip over most jigs on the market. The Bitsy Flip Jig only costs $3-4 dollars (depending on where you buy it), so you don’t have to worry too much about snagging it.

You can fish the jig how and where it is designed to be fished, knowing that if you do happen to snag it, it only cost you a few dollars.

Additionally, with its very cheap price, you can also buy a bunch of different colors and sizes to really get good at jig fishing and cover all situations you might run into.

The budget aspect of the Bitsy Flip Jig is a huge advantage for newer jig fisherman that is difficult to find in any other jig.

Materials

So with a cheap price tag, obviously it is worth discussing what the Bitsy Flip is made from. For a very quick overview:

  • Jie Head: Lead
  • Hook: Black Nickel
  • Skirt: Silicone
  • Skirt Keeper/Tie: Rubber Band

These materials are pretty much the generic, basic materials that the vast majority of jigs will be made from.

One thing I want to mention is the hook, which I think is the biggest improvement over the Strike King Bitsy Bug.

The Bitsy Bug has a very thin, copper wire hook. That hook is quite flimsy and will also get dull very quickly.

But the Bitsy Flip has a much heavier duty, black nickel hook. This hook is much stronger and will stay much sharper for a very long time.

So overall, the materials and construction of the Bitsy Flip jig are essentially the same as the rest of the jigs on the market, only at a lower price point.

Size Recommendation

The Bitsy Flip comes in three sizes, 1/4oz, 3/8oz, and 1/2oz. I don’t recommend using the 1/2oz size at all.

Once you need a jig that heavy, you are probably experienced enough to go ahead and buy a more specialized jig anyway.

I recommend starting with the 1/4oz size because it is super easy to cast and handle in the water.

Plus, the slower, gliding fall that the lighter weights have are a great way to get some extra bites from bass.

And then once you are comfortable with the 1/4oz size, you can start using the 3/8oz size as well, if you are fishing a bit deeper water or thicker cover.

And those two sizes are the same for both of our recommended budget jigs.

Recommended Bitsy Flip Trailers

So one of the best things about the Bitsy Flip jig is its smaller, more compact, simplistic profile. So when picking a trailer, I recommend doing the exact same thing, and keeping your trailers small and simple.

I think that chunk style trailers are the best options for this jig, because chunk trailers are shorter, more compact in their size and shape.

The two jig trailers that I will use with a Bitsy Flip jig are the Zoom Super Chunk Jr. when I am fishing cold water and the Strike King Rage Tail Chunk when I am fishing warm water.

Reeling this In

The Strike King Bitsy Flip Jig is the ultimate “no-excuses” lure for any angler looking to master jig fishing.

Its versatile design allows it to excel as a flipping, casting, or swimming jig, while its budget-friendly price point removes the fear of losing lures in heavy cover.

By combining this compact jig with a simple trailer like a Zoom Super Chunk Jr. or a Rage Tail Chunk, you create a presentation that bass simply cannot resist.

Whether you are a beginner looking for your first “big fish” bait or a seasoned pro looking for a reliable, cost-effective producer, the Bitsy Flip deserves a permanent spot in your tackle box.

Grab a few in the 1/4oz or 3/8oz sizes, head to your favorite honey hole, and start catching more—and bigger—bass today.
