Best Time of Year for Big Swimbait Fishing
From my experience, the pre-spawn and summer months are the best times to use big swimbaits.
During the pre-spawn, the big bass in the lake are feeding up and moving shallow to prepare for the spawn.
This makes it much easier to target the truly big bass up in the shallows. And during the summer months, bass have a very fast metabolism and don’t like being out in the sun too long.
So they still need to eat a lot of food, but they don’t like spending lots of time hunting. This makes the summer bass more inclined to eat bigger meals like a big swimbait.
