3 Best Walking Frogs in 2025

best walking frogs

The hollow body frog is one of the most popular, fun, and effective lure to catch bass in and around vegetation.

You really can’t fish the summer months without one. And walking frogs provide a lot of benefits to help you catch more bass.

Let’s look at the 3 best walking frogs for this year.

Top 3 Performing Walking Frogs

Pretty much every lure company makes a hollow body walking frog.

So it can be very daunting when trying to figure out which one to buy.

So to keep it simple, we’ve gathered together the top 3 options that are available and affordable this year.

1. Strike King Hack Attack Pad Perch

Price: $9.59

Let’s be honest, hollow body frogs aren’t usually imitating an actual frog.

Although bass do eat frogs, bass usually thing that these lures are a shad, bluegill, baby bass, or a random type of forage.

The brainchild of Elite Series angler and heavy cover specialist, Greg Hackney, the Strike King Hack Attack Pad Perch delivers a lifelike panfish imitation that is built to explore the thickest cover imaginable.

The Strike King Hack Attack Pad Perch features a precisely tapered nose that allows it to slide over heavy grass and timber with outstanding efficiency.

Fitted with a super long rubber skirt, the Strike King Hack Attack Pad Perch can be feverishly marched over vegetation to draw knee-jerk reaction strikes, or meticulously crawled to encourage lethargic predators.

Backed by a super-strong double frog hook, the Strike King Hack Attack Pad Perch has been carefully refined, rigorously tested, and proven by one of the best in the business when it comes to fishing cover.

2. Snag Proof Bobby’s Perfect Frog

Price: $10.99

Designed by legendary frog fisherman, Bobby Barrack, this frog is unique compared to just about every other frog.

As you can tell, the points of the hooks are actually angled upwards rather than horizontal like most other frogs.

This upward hook angle helps to increase hook up ratios because it is much easer for the hook points to grab onto the bass’s upper mouth compared to horizontal hook angles that can sometimes glide along the roof of the mouth.

And because of unique, hump shaped body of the Perfect Frog, the hook points still remain protected from snags and the frog is still just as weedless as all the other frogs.

Over the past year, this frog has actually become my favorite and accounts for about 75% of my frog fishing at the moment.

Now that number is always changing, but I absolutely love this frog and have had noticeably higher hook up ratios while using it.

The Snag Proof Bobby’s Perfect Frog also comes in a ton of incredible color options that are at the very top of the industry and can help you really dial in on the exact forage the bass are eating.

3. SPRO Bronzeye

Price: $11.99

The Bronzeye is the industry standard of hollow body walking frogs.

The Dean Rojas Bronzeye Frog by Spro is a standout in the US market, thanks to Rojas’ $40,000 Bassmaster Classic win in 2004.

Designed to leverage Gamakatsu’s EWG Double Frog Hook, its 2x strong wire ensures durability against strong rods and braided lines.

The Bronzeye’s narrow, long body and anchored nose allow for easy walk-the-dog action in open water.

Features include a welded line tie eye, secure molded weight, and water-resistant body for proper landing.

Its living rubber legs are secured inside the body and can be trimmed to your preference. Ideal for thick mats, sparse grass, and open water.

When to Use a Walking Frog

Understanding when to use walking frogs versus popping frogs can enhance your bass fishing success.

Walking frogs, with their streamlined, boat-shaped design, are ideal for heavy cover and matted vegetation, allowing for smooth, snag-free movement.

They are best for clear, shallow water and covering large areas quickly.

Popping frogs, featuring a cupped mouth, create noise and attract bass in sparse cover, deeper water, and low-light conditions.

They excel in muddy waters and early morning or evening fishing, offering a slower, more deliberate approach.

Choose walking frogs for thick vegetation and popping frogs for open water and drawing bass from a distance.

Gear for Frog Fishing

Gear is absolutely critical when fishing a frog. And this is a heavy duty technique that requires heavy duty gear.

I like either a 7’+ medium heavy power or ideally, a heavy power baitcasting rod. You probably already new this, but a baitcaster setup is a requirement.

Spinning rods simply do not have the strength or stiffness to both retrieve the frog properly as well as set the hook properly.

And then for the line, I like 30-40 lb braided line if I am fishing the frog in more open water and 60 lb braided line if I am fishing in very thick cover or matted vegetation.

Reeling this In

The hollow body frog is a must-have lure for bass fishing, particularly in the summer months around vegetation.

Among the top-performing walking frogs this year are the Strike King Pad Perch, River2Sea Bully Wa 2, and the Spro Bronzeye, each offering unique features to enhance your fishing success.

Timing, water conditions, and vegetation are key to effectively using these lures, making them versatile and essential tools for any angler.
