Barb Catch Fishing

Glow in the dark fishing rods can be very helpful when night fishing.

Many people stay away from nighttime fishing because visibility is obviously very low, which makes the fishing process much harder.

Being able to see you rod clearly in the dark is super helpful, especially when bank fishing for catfish at night

Also, these rods just look super cool. And as the saying goes, “you look good, you play good”.

Best Glow in the Dark Fishing Rods and Reels

For whatever reason, it is difficult to find a glow in the dark fishing rod. Many companies don’t make them at all.

The companies that do make them don’t do a great job of marketing them, so I made this list so you can easily find the best glow rods available.

1. Berkley Glowstik

Price: $49.99  currently on sale for $24.99

Rod Specs:

  • Spinning Rod
  • 7′
  • Medium Power
  • 10-20 lb line rating (based on monofilament line, will be higher for braid and fluorocarbon)
  • Composite Material

The Berkely Glowstik can only be purchased as a combo with the reel. This gives you a great deal because the price is still low.

However, I don’t use the stock reel, I replace it with my own spinning reel that is a bit heavier duty.

Berkely is a very trustworthy and reliable brand in the fishing industry. Berkley has been around for decades and always produces great products.

Since the brand isn’t as established, they aren’t at the top of this list, but I have had no issues with the rods and they look amazing.

Other Ways to Make Your Rod Glow

Some of these rods are a bit expensive. If you don’t go night fishing super often and don’t want to buy a whole new rod just for the occasional nighttime trip, there are other, cheaper ways to give your rod that glow.

Fishing Rod Glow Sticks

fishing rod glow stick

These glow sticks snap right onto your rod and glow very brightly. You can put as many of these that you want onto the rod until you are satisfied with the glow.

You can get these for about 20 bucks on Amazon and they work great. They don’t look as good as a full glowing rod, but they are more cost efficient.

Glow Tape

Glow tape is not specially designed for fishing rods, but works great. You can wrap as much of your rod, tackle box, kayak, or other fishing gear in this tape and make it glow.

These cost about 10 bucks on Amazon and are certainly worth it.

As with any tape, it can be a bit annoying removing it if you don’t want it anymore, but it is my favorite way to make a glow in the dark rod.

When to Use Glow in the Dark Rods

Glow in the dark rods are most popular for nighttime fishing. Lots of catfishing and off-shore anglers love these rods.

I often use them when I am going fishing late in the day and expect to fish a bit after the sun goes down.

These rods are certainly not required for fishing in the dark, but just make it a bit easier and more enjoyable.

Reeling this In

Glow in the dark fishing rods are a great way to improve your nighttime fishing and come in all types of rod designs.

Berkley only has one glow rod, but Berkley is a very trustworthy brand and you really can’t go wrong with it.

Mad Katz really specializes in glowing rods and makes wonderful products.

Ancient Mariner is a newcomer in the fishing brand world, but makes some super good looking and functional glow in the dark rods.

Whichever rod you choose, have fun with it and catch lots of fish.
