Barb Catch Fishing

Every angler is constantly in search of new lures and new techniques that can catch them more fish.

If you are bored of all the basic lures and bass rigs, you have come to the right place.

The following lures are very unique and different, but they work very very well.

How I Found these Lures

Just like you, I had gotten a bit bored of using the same old lures and fishing techniques over and over again.

Don’t get me wrong, I love throwing crankbaits, jigs, spinnerbaits, and the other universally popular baits.

But finding new lures and catching bass on them is one of the most fun and exciting parts of fishing for me.

So I went out and bought tons of unique, funky, and interesting lures. I tested them all and figured out which ones work the best.

Because of the uniqueness and variety of these lures, they have become some of my favorite all time lures.

1. River2Sea Clackin' Crawfish

Clackin' Crawfish

Crawfish imitations are incredibly popular. Every lure whether it be a crankbait, jig, chatterbait, or what have you, comes in sizes and colors that imitate crawfish.

But none of these actually look much like a crawfish. Even the lures with realistic body shapes and colors don’t move through the water like a real crawfish.

The River2Sea Clackin’ Crawfish is the only lure I have found that swims exactly like a real crawfish.

This swimming motion, pared with the Clackin’ Crawfish’s incredible body design, make it the most realistic crawfish lure on the market.

I highly encourage you to give it a try, especially when you know bass are feeding on crawfish.

2. Headbanger Rockerhead

The Headbanger Rockerhead takes a finesse presentation, and adds erratic and enticing action that triggers tons of bites.

The Rockerhead causes the soft plastic bait to spontaneously dart to one side or another.

And the free swinging bait will swim and sway along with it. The action is very unique.

Since the Rockerhead is just the jig head and hook, you can use whatever soft plastic you want to.

This adds a level of versatility and personalization to the bait.

3. Berkley Powerbait Gilly

This bait has actually gained a bit of popularity in the past year or so. The Gilly is a hyper realistic soft plastic bluegill swimbait

There are very few soft plastic bluegill baits because the tall, fat body shape makes it hard to insert hook or make the bait weedless.

The Gilly is by far the best soft plastic bluegill that I have used. You are able to rig this bait however you want and it will maintain proper swimming motion and profile.

It has an air pocket in the top of the head which makes it bottom heavy.

This keeps the bait upright and in the correct anatomical position, even if you rig it side ways.

4. River2Sea Dahlberg Diver Frog

Diver Frog

Everybody loves throwing a frog. The hollow body frog is without a doubt a top 5 most popular lures amongst anglers.

But they really aren’t the most realistic bass lures. Sometimes when has are a bit more picky or less willing to come up to the surface.

I will throw the Dahlberg Diver Frog. If you have ever thrown a real life frog into the water, they won’t stay on the surface.

They actually dive down and swim through the water. The Diver Frog does the same thing. It does down with every tug of the rod.

It can also be fished on the surface if you like, but fishing it sub surface seems to work the best.

The legs actually kick through the water exactly the same as a living frog. This lure works best in shallow, clear water.

5. Snag Proof Zoo Dog

The Snag Proof Zoo Dog is a hollow body, weedless walking lure. Almost all the hollow body lure out there are frogs.

And while some of these frogs can be walked fairly well, they are not designed for it.

The Zoo Dog is a weedless baitfish top water that walks extremely well.

As you can imagine, the Zoo Dog works great in matted grass, lily pads, and other vegetation during the hotter summer months.

But one of my favorite times to throw this lure is actually during the fall season.

During the fall, there are tons of leaves and pine needles floating on the surface.

It can be very annoying to use traditional walking lures because they get caught on the leaves and ruin the cast.

It also works extremely well during the summer, as you can walk it right through grass, lily pads, and weeds.

But the Zoo Dog walks right through the floating debris without getting hung up.

Honorable Mention

Why Use these Unique, Different Lures?

Well, the way I see it, there are really two reasons to use lures that are outside of the norm.

First, because bass see the same lures over and over again and will begin to figure out that they shouldn’t eat certain baits.

These bass are referred to as high pressure bass. Using lures that are unique and present something the bass have never seen before can get pressured, finicky bass to bite.

The second reason is simply that it is fun. Using the same old lures time and time again quickly becomes boring.

Catching bass on a completely new lure is incredibly fun. I am always on the hunt for different lures and techniques to have fun with.

Tying this Off

At the end of the day, fishing is all about having fun. And fishing with unique and different lures is super fun.

Now fishing is only fun if you are catching. So trust me, these lures DO WORK.

I didn’t just compile a list of random lures because they look cool. I have caught fish on all of these lures.

They certainly work and would recommend giving them a try if you have gotten bored of your typical lures.
